The first thing we noticed was that a previous guest had left a shirt hanging on the back of the bathroom door and housekeeping missed it.
The second thing was that the toilet wouldn't completely flush. It just filled with water, swirled around and slowly let a bit of the water out.
I tried to call the front desk (because it closes at 10 instead of having a night clerk for emergencies, and it was 9:53) and that's when I noticed the third problem. The phone didn't work. At all. No dial tone. The screen just said "Disabled" and showed the wrong day, month and date. So I hurriedly used my cell phone to Google the number and call it before they left for the night.
The guy from the desk, to his credit, did come over promptly, plunger in hand. He looked it over, said it probably just needed plunging, which he did, and it emptied out. Once. The next test flush it was back to slowly swirling. A couple more flushes got it to empty, but the tank took a while to fill between each flush. So it flushed about every third time.
Rather than offer another room, or partial refund, he said he'd get onto housekeeping tomorrow about the shirt, get the toilet worked on tomorrow, etc. None of that helped because we were only staying one night.
It definitely wasn't a $90 room, which is what I was charged. It should've been more like $60.
