The food at the restaurant was atrocious. The pool was packed so full with No real room to move. I understand it is a busy time of year. But the downstairs bar was noisy and overcrowded. Overcharged our credit card in 2 transactions a total of $950. Was rectified but shouldn’t have happened.

Hotel itself was fine. The rooms and facilities were overall very clean and nice, with an easy walk to the Esplanade and Cairns Central Shopping Center. The food was also very good. However, I don’t know if it was because we went during the off season or what, but there was NEVER anyone when you needed them. No concierge, and front desk always had a queue a mile long and people just gave up and walked away. Checking in took a ridiculous amount of time. Calls to the front desk always went unanswered and we ended up having to just manage things ourselves, from calling a taxi to fixing a malfunctioning toilet, because we couldn’t ever reach anyone. Also, I asked for a birthday surprise cake for my son, which they brought 3 days too early and with a complimentary bottle of wine, which was nice, but seeing as it was for an 8 year old (which I informed them of) he probably would’ve been happier with a coke or juice. Also, I’m not sure what housekeeping did other than make the beds and straighten the towels. Nothing was cleaned, and after the second day we just took care of it ourselves and kept the “Do not Disturb” sign on the rest of our stay. Also, a big point of contention for us was that there wasn’t a shop in the hotel where we could just go buy soft drinks, snacks, coffee etc. It either had to be through room service or you had to go down to the bar/coffee shop and hope that someone was manning the desk. I could write more but I’m out of space. Do not recommend.

We have stayed at the Novotel Oasis multiple times over many years and previously thought it was great. On this 10 day stay It was disappointing to see that the new owners (following a fairly recent acquisition) seem to have cut costs and talent on the hotel staff. Bar staff were extremely slow in all areas, they generally stood doing nothing rather than clear tables and also appereared uninterested in assisting the resort or the guests. The pool was cleaned daily but the area around the pool was not and daily there were old bandaids and sweet rappers not picked up, along with the previous days pool toys left scattered everywhere. The poolside seating and sun beds were well past their best and there was not enough of them.

Brilliant hotel - very pleasantly surprised
Great experience and great value. Breakfast was superb and great value for money. It is full cooked breakfasts pancakes/waffles and full English eggs, bacon, sausages too. My only challenge (and it’s being picky) was that coffee was served on teacups without saucers or disposable cups. Coffee mugs would be easier to handle and nicer to drink from. Pool was excellent. Room was exactly as I’d expect. Really impressed given I’ve travelled a lot and hadn’t been to Cairns for years I was worried it might be dated and basic. Brilliant family hotel.

Great location, very well suited to families. No amenities to eat or sit in room. Our room had 2 double beds which are very small for 2 adults, 1 inside chair and 1 outside chair.
