Chena Hot Springs is definitely a unique place to visit. The hot springs themself were great, and it's worth the visit just to experience them. We stayed for two nights and I can't imagine staying longer unless you were absolutely focused on seeing the northern lights and are ok waiting for a weather window. We did not see them, it was overcast the whole time. They also don't really offer wake up calls, so we had to just periodically keep on checking.
We stayed in a Fox River room. It was clean- but nothing special. Our first room was ridiculously hot with no way of cooling it even with the windows open. It was in the 30's outside. The thermal heat was radiating up from the ground. They were super accommodating and moved us to a room on the 2nd floor that was much cooler.
There is a TV but only a couple channels come in and the only one that came in clearly was Fox News. There is not a fridge or microwave in the room which made it difficult to bring leftovers from the restaurant or keep room drinks cold. The restaurant itself was very good and had many options which is good since it is the only option for all meals. Though there is a Cafe with frozen stuff you can heat up in their microwaves if you want.
We went to the ice museum- it was neat though I am not sure it is worth the $20, but there is little else to do so I would plan on it.
All of the hotel staff were super friendly. Overall, I am really glad we went and enjoyed it, but do not see the need to go back.

I didn't like the way the dogs are treated. They are chained on short chains to their little houses just running in small circles. After 8 years of the hard work they are being dumped for adoption . The property needs to be upgraded especially little showers. We really liked the restaurant. The reception worker in the morning had no idea how to work the computer and was not able to provide us the invoice. The aurorium room was cold and the light was not working.
Every member of the staff is beyond excellent!
Property is in desperate need of a revamp for sure!
Hot springs are wonderful however also in department need of a revamp.
Buildings are very ran down
Food is excellent! Tours inside property excellent!
It was definitely a fun experience. We jave lived here for a long time and had never visited. Room was ok. Our phone did not work but they came and fixed it. One point I would make. If I pay the same amount for each night, I would appreciate room cleaning every day! I am paying the same amount each day. I should have clean sheets and towels every day. If I would get a discount for the second day that would make sense. If I pay the same amount I should have a completely clean every day.
Acknowledgment of presence at restaurant (waiting for seating) was very poor. Ate there 3 times. Wait staff should be dedicated to a room and the patrons in it. Service within the restaurant was also poor, although the food was good and delivered fairly quickly.
We had a good time, saw the northern lights and had some good interactions with staff. But, the rooms are small and outdated, the shower is smaller than one in a motor home. No refrigerator and no room service unless you request towels or to have your room swept. The first step into the building was at least 10 inches and I have a bad knee so that was no fun. I would go again but for a shorter amount of time (we were there 5 nights) and be prepared with an ice chest and food of my own. The dining area has extremely long wait times (we waited almost 2 hours for dinner). The good things were the hot springs, ice museum and northern lights tour.
CHena is in a beautiful area and short walk up the hill will take you to an amazing spot to view the Aurora. The staff were all friendly and helpful. Enjoyed our interactions with each of them.
However, the rooms were tired and not well kept. The shower handle was backwards, you could hear noise throughout the night. I recommend staying in the newer Moose lodge as we were in the older quad cabins and they were disappointing.
The price point was very fair and there is a lot to do on the property in terms of hiking, hot springs, tours of the ice museum and goethermal green house. The food in the restaurant was fine.
A nice get-away from Fairbanks where you can observe auroras easily and convenioently. The hot springs pool is very nice, Restaurant food is fine but the wait-times can be pretty long
Chena Hot Springs is like a big family camp. The hot springs are great - very hot in spots! The food was wonderful - Alaskan scallops, hamburgers/fries, sesame chicken salad -- all delicious and prices are pretty standard. Great margaritas and they offer good wines and beers. Rooms in the Moose Lodge are a little dated but look like they have recently be painted and are clean and roomy. Staff people were all friendly and helpful. This place is literally at the end of the road! Beautiful creek and forest all around.
Our room was nice … good sized with two queen beds. The hot springs were great … warm and very comfortable. The activities center provided a place for us to play cards and games with friends and to eat a light meal purchased in the gift shop area. We had a hard time with the dining room staff (too many rules) who would not take reservations, would not seat a portion of a group until the whole group arrived, and would not provide separate checks for a group of 6. These rules are NOT customer friendly and the separate check “policy” was ridiculous — one if our group if 6 left the dining room to make the group 5, at which point our waiter (who had refused to make 3 checks) made 3 checks — the incident left us unhappy with the staff and the “policies” . The waiter alienated our friend over the check policy and then wrote the same number of checks he had refused to write!!! Duh!!

Over priced inedible food. Rooms not clean and serviced daily. They sell $95 tickets for the northern lights when they know that the kpi is 1 and no chance of seeing them, that’s bad business! I would never suggest this place to anyone.
The owner needs to put money into a good chef, maids and fixing issues like leaks in the room from the upstairs bathroom. So disappointed!
Loved our stay at the hot springs & saw the northern lights. Moose lodge rooms are just ok, could use a fridge. Restaurant on the property is great & prices are very reasonable. The outdoor pool is nice but there’s no place to sit in it, big rocks all around it, different from any springs we’ve been to. One complaint is outside watching for the lights there was a lot of traffic flying down the parking lot /runway area, I thought they were going to hit someone, maybe that was staff? Overall a good stay & will return.
