Nearly a 2 week stay at Ascott Gurney. A lovely hotel with great facilities. Rooms were spacious and clean.. Lovely downstairs bar / reception area. Swimming pool area was great.. separate covered pool area for children to use..gym well equipped and with good air con. Location of the hotel is really good. You can walk into George Town if you want (approx 40 minutes) or take a taxi which won't cost a lot. Opposite the hotel is a recently completed park / walking area, very pleasant. Shopping malls and food options within easy walking distance of the hotel, all on Gurney Drive. Staff on the whole were excellent. Special mention to staff member Nicholas, whose demeanour and attitude towards helping guests was first class. Only used the cafe / restaurant once but the food was of a good standard.. Would definitely look to stay again on my next trip to Penang.

All good.... but also suffers the same problems as in many other hotels. Can they manage the queue better for the eggs station during morning buffet breakfast. As it is open, guests tend not to queue or know if there is the line. And the poor chef is taking orders from left and right and can be annoying if the chef starts taking orders from others instead of the guests who have been quietly queueing up....
