Beautiful family friendly Grand Marais resort
The location of the resort was wonderful. Close to local restaurants, shops and art galleries. We walked out of our back door and were on the beach of Lake Superior. One night was not long enough! We will return again.

I appreciate how clean the property and rooms are. I also like how near it is to the harbor, lake and everything the town has to offer. I did not appreciate that my room was without a view of the lake and instead faced the parking lot. That is on me to pay attention to the "village view" booking for future.

We really enjoyed our stay at East Bay Suites. Our condo room was very well appointed, we had everything we needed. The only (slight) downside is that the bed mattress, which must have been nearly brand new, was extremely firm. To a point where it was quite difficult to get comfortable in it. The first night was challenging, my wife nearly had to give up and go sleep on the sofa. By the second night we were getting accustomed to it, but still it was the most firm mattress we've ever experienced. The only other minor issue was that the two fire rings seemed to be very popular with the guests and with the breeze coming off the lake, it meant that we had to keep our unit's windows closed to avoid the smoke and use the AC instead. We would rather have been able to open the windows and enjoy the fresh air.

Overall pretty good except for one little thing...
We were in Grand Marais for the Fisherman's Picnic weekend which was a lot of fun. Our stay at East Bay Suites was for the most part good with one exception....our room did not have a working AC unit. They knew this when we checked in and they failed to tell us that. It is worth noting that it was over 90 degrees the day we checked in. Needless to say, our two nights were not very comfortable. When we told the staff about this issue (the AC unit also would kick on- even when it was off- which made one hell of a loud grinding noise which was particularly unpleasant in the middle of the night), they told us they knew about the issue and further, that the unit was unrepairable. To their credit, they did discount the room but not nearly enough to make up for not telling us about it in the first place. It was a bush-league move on their part and likely one they thought they could get away with because every hotel for miles was sold out. Unfortunately, it was blistering hot so it didn't work out so well. Otherwise, it is a nice place to stay but surprisingly light on some amenities- no ice machines except down in the lobby and you can't help yourself; staff has to get it for you. No breakfast or area to buy toiletries or other things you might want. On the flip side, you can get access to bikes, materials to build fires on the beach, DVDs, etc. so they do help you with some nice things like that. Also, a nice little kitchen if you want to cook for yourself
