Holidays in Melaleuca

Melaleuca is a place with heaps of cool stories to tell. If you reckon your life's been a bit humdrum lately, a trip here is the perfect answer!

Australia's capital city, Canberra, sits approximately 930 kilometres to the north of Melaleuca.

Need some beach therapy? Feel the salty breeze on your face as you tune into the soothing sounds of the ocean at Kents Beach. It's the best kind of medicine around!

Hartz Mountains National Park, 50 kilometres away, is the place you'll want to go if you're after some fresh air and a quiet afternoon. It's well worth the journey.

If your holiday coincides with a fresh dump of snow, you'll see many powder fiends loading up their cars for some icy action at Mount Mawson.

Hastings is 55 kilometres to the east and worthy of a day trip. After more ideas? Geeveston, 60 kilometres to the northeast of Melaleuca, should be your next stop.

In need of something a bit more active? For an exciting jaunt through the area's landscapes, sign up for a bit of rock climbing or mountain climbing.

Organising your own itinerary is freeing, but every now and then it's nice to let someone else make all the tough decisions. Guided nature walks and wildlife spotting tours provide a stress-free way to explore the region.

Want to have some fun off solid ground? Tasmania is a fabulous place to try out some rafting and canoeing. They're must-do activities, even for the biggest landlubber!

Pack your camera and head to one of the surrounding area's popular outdoor attractions. Its open-air museums are just waiting to be explored.

Whether you enjoy the sophistication of Michelin stars or chowing down on a snack from a street stall, sampling the local food and drink is one of the best things about travel. So why not tingle your taste buds by tucking into some of the area's delectable offerings?

Looking for some insight into the regional food? We recommend trying beef and salmon, two staple ingredients which make up a range of dishes here.

While Melaleuca offers a multitude of delicious foods, don't miss salt and pepper squid and meat pie. Considered iconic local dishes, you'll have to put them on your must-eat list if you really want to taste this destination.

If you're not one to say no to dessert, you're not going to be disappointed. Try peach melba, a scrumptious treat that's sure to satisfy your sugar cravings.

Has all this sightseeing worked up a thirst? Toss back a glass or two of Cascade Special Stout, a beer that should be on your bucket (or pint) list.

Bundaberg Spiced Rum is the number one spirit for many locals in Tasmania. Order one or two shots and embrace that warm glow!

Not very much is finer than a drop of wine with dinner. Here, Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon and Huon Valley Pinot Noir are what the wine lovers usually ask for.

Time to head home from the beautiful Tasmania region? You might only have a handful of Australian dollars remaining in your pocket, but you'll be rich in amazing experiences.

Need to know where the closest airport is? Well, it's Hobart International Airport (HBA) and it is 120 kilometres northeast.
