New luxury renovation of an ancient stone barn in a medieval bastide village

Just off the village square of a small quiet thirteenth century medieval village, this two en-suite double bed, luxury, modern renovation of an ancient stone barn offers the highest standard of luxury accommodation. Only the top floor of the barn has been converted to living space (this is at street level at one end and elevated at the other as the barn is on the valley side) so the living 'apartment' is on one level and is based on open plan living. The living space opens out onto an elevated covered terrace projecting the occupants out into the valley below. The terrace faces away from the village and other properties offering high levels of privacy. It is above the roof line of those few properties below it. Large triple glass floor to ceiling doors and a glass balustrade on the terrace ensure the tremendous views are always available, from inside the apartment or out on the terrace. Facing South East, the apartment makes the most of the sun all year round and is especially evident from early morning when it fills both the terrace and apartment. High tech energy reflective glass patio doors and remotely controlled velux windows in the roof, supported by an air exchange heating / air conditioning system ensures maximum comfort all the year round. There is also a ceramic wood burner that rotates 360 degrees to offer warmth where ever you decide to rest in the living space and terrace if you are lucky enough to find yourself there outside of the super sunny summers.

The property is a stand alone house and has its own entrance off the village street but shares a large terraced garden plot with the owners holiday home next door. The garden plot is divided into two and this property has its own entrance to the pool garden. The owner also has an entrance down a small slope from the terrace garden above and this makes it very easy to arrange exclusive periods of access to the pool garden if desired. As the pool garden is separate from the garden terrace around the owners property it offers several discrete private seating areas as the terrace is higher than your average person (I can't remember exactly how high but I'm 6' and can't see over). Great privacy and a large garden considering we are in the center of the village. Visitors are ensured of a private place to sit in the garden and enjoy the view, or watch the swallows and house martins dive down to drink from the pool. Seating at the pool is also as secluded as it could be considering you are within a village. There are certainly areas where you can sunbath without being overseen. No properties directly overlook the pool.

The apartment has a continuous floor surface stretching from the front door to the end of the terrace with no steps or ridges to navigate. With all interior doors 83cm wide and central floor draining in one of the en-suite bathrooms and extendable shower hose, the apartment is welcoming to visitors in wheelchairs.

The village is very quiet as it has no through road, Visitors drive in and out by the same route. The 500 year old bakery with traditional wood fired ovens brings in the locals from the surrounding area for morning croissants and fantastic bread. It also serves ice creams, soft drinks and essential provisions. The village is a peaceful sanctuary even when it bustles into life, offering weekly culinary fetes in the church square and classical concerts in the medieval church. Montcabrier is set in beautiful countryside with an abundance of small market towns nearby, and famous for its food and wine. Confit de canard, foie gras, goats cheese, walnuts, prunes, melons, peaches are all locally produced in abundance. Montcabrier hosts a marché des produits every Friday evening in the summer, for local producers to bring their fresh produce, BBQ, wine and often music and fairy lights with trestle tables set out in front of the 13th century church make this a very popular event. There is also a marché aux puces and Festival de Montcabrier later in the summer. This is the local traditional dinner and dancing where local matchmaking has helped along generations of would be romantics. Montcabrier hosts the wonderful "8 de Montcabrier" classical music festival (Check it out on Youtube), a really outstanding event if you can be organised enough to get tickets. Motcabrier is on the Grande Randonnée G632 so boasts fantastic walking opportunities along with mountain bike trails, horse riding and rock climbing. The great rivers of the Lot and Dordogne offer boat trips, canoeing and there are many tributaries if you are keen on fishing. There is also a free tennis court available for your use in the village. There are so many things to do for every ability, it is best to ask us if you are heading here and we can help you plan a full itinerary including shopping, eating, entertainment, and what ever activity you seek.

The Lot valley in this area, stretching from Cahors 40Km to the East, is the main area for the famous Cahors vineyards. It is all about the food, wine, markets and restaurants in this area of the Lot. Wine tasting is encouraged! The nearest market town is the beautiful medieval Puy-l' Eveque 7km although there is a market on everyday of the week in one village or another a short drive from Montcabrier. Plenty of fantastic restaurants, again within a short drive, with the nearest a restaurant and bar in Duravel 4Km. There are large supermarkets in Fummel 11Km and Prayssac 12Km.
Make yourself comfortable in this air-conditioned vacation home, which features a private pool and a Smart TV. There's a private balcony. A kitchen is outfitted with a refrigerator, an oven, and a stovetop. Conveniences include a phone, as well as a microwave and a coffee/tea maker.

Spacious and beautiful
The property is located in a small hilltop village so is very quiet and peaceful. It is extremely spacious and very well set up with excellent kitchen facilities and a wide range of equpiment. The two double rooms were cool and comfortable, both with en-suites. One room only had a curtain between the bedroom and en-suite though which our relatives found slightly awkward. The living area was extremely spacious and has amazing views through the full-length windows to the balcony and surrounding countryside. The balcony was a shady and relaxing place to spend time in. Walking out the front door and down the side lane to get to the pool was a little strange, but the village is so quiet that we never actually saw anyone else, and it is only half a minute's walk! The pool was extremely clean and well-maintained and was a great addition to our stay. The whole apartment is air-conditioned which added to the comfort. The owner (who was very helpful and quick to respond to any queries) has provided a massive selection of CDs which we played each night - a great range of music! The area is beautiful. We found plenty to do including chateaux, walks, visits to bastide villages, and a 2 hour drive to Toulouse. The village itself has an excellent boulangerie and there are supermarkets a short drive away. Overall, this was a gorgeous place to stay and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

The house is huge and the photos do not do it justice. It’s super comfortable and there’s a lovely view from the terrace. The pool is also large and clean. Plenty to do in the area. We loved our week there and would absolutely recommend!

Excellent Property with stunning views in Montcabrier
WOW factor as soon as you walk into the house with stunning views; the pictures on the website do not do it justice. Furniture and fittings of a very high standard, exceptionally clean and very well equipped. Great balcony to sit outside to relax. Thoroughly enjoyed watching the swallows flying around the garden several times each day. Good sized pool. Quiet medieval bastide village with a good bakery across the road a bonus. Excellent prompt communication from Adam. The best property we have stayed in. We cannot recommend this property enough and we cannot wait to book it again!

Montcabrier retreat
A lovely apartment which has been converted from an old barn into a high luxury pad with Wow factor. Opening the door for the first time leads you into a wonderful open plan kitchen and living area which is all to a high spec. Add to that the amazing view from the full open glass windows and the terrace and you have the makings of a very relaxing and private place. The area itself is on the quiet side for families to be full entertained, if they want more than the great pool which is available, but there are some terrific walks right from the door. The local bakery in the square provide the cherry on the cake (literally) and of course the must do French breakfast with baguette and croissants. We also highly recommend a visit to Le Loup Blanc restaurant in Saint Martin Le Redon - you will not be dissapointed. Enjoy!

My version of the French dream! Spectacular home, stunning views, quiet hill top village, church bells toll every hour and warm amber street lighting. And within the Lot valley, incredible hospitality, food, wine and challenging roads to cycle...heaven! This was my 6th time in the Lot valley and this is by far away the best home I have stayed in.

A beautifully restored property in a charming village.
This is a very well restored and equipped property. The large open plan kitchen/ lounge/ dining area gives way to the covered balcony which offers great views over the wooded valley. The two bedrooms each have a spacious en-suite bathroom fitted with a decent size walk-in shower. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.

Peaceful, calm and relaxing.
A very peaceful place to stay to get a great feel for rural French life. The accommodation was renovated to a very high standard and was well equipped. The property owners' information was informative, accurate with good attention to detail. It was exactly what we were looking for. We would recommend this place and area for a holiday if you are looking for a quiet, relaxing break with access to places to visit and explore.

Super gite!
It is very hard to find gites like this in France - stylish and up to date whilst retaining the character and warmth of an old property. It is beautifully decorated, immaculate with lovely furnishings and a well equipped kitchen ... and in the most delightful, peaceful village. Heaven, really. It was hard to tear ourselves away from the terrace where we spent hours relaxing and watching the swallows. When we did, we found lots of lovely walks and some great restaurants.

Beautiful accommodation in the perfect setting
Montcabrier is a charming and tranquil village, ideal as the perfect base from which to explore the surrounding area. The property is an absolute delight with the most stunning balcony views over the Lot valley. We had the added pleasure of Swallows nesting in the eaves and were entertained daily as we watched them flying to and from the nest. The property has been thoughtfully equipped with all essential items and felt incredibly relaxing and somewhat luxurious to come back to after a day out, sightseeing. The owners were on hand if we needed any advice but were in no way intrusive.....just lovely, helpful people. This is a very special place that we will always remember with the fondest of memories.

Sehr tolle Unterkunft in idyllischer Lage
