I'm not sure it's possible to truly express in words the horrible mistake I made in booking at this place. I didn't check the reviews so I take responsibility for my decision to book and pay for a room at the Charleston Lodge. I had a late check in around 9:30pm and I stood in that room for less than 10 minutes before I decided I would rather sleep in my car (with my dog) than attempt to stay overnight in that place. I am a US Marine Corps Desert Storm veteran and I have slept in some dirty, smelly and unsafe places in my life, but I wouldn't have stayed there even if it was absolutely free.
They placed me in a room on the backside of the property where the drug dealers hang out (I was approached twice in the short time it took me to get all of my things from my car into the room). It took five times trying to use the room key card to get into the room and when I finally made it inside, the TV was on and it smelled like someone had just got through smoking a cigarette in it. There were only sheets on the bed with no bedspread and there was no way to contact the front desk because the phone was broken and also had no cord connecting it to anything. If all this wasn't bad enough, I was more worried about my car being parked there overnight.
So I grabbed my things, put everything back in my car, drove around to the office (which was now locked), flicked my room key card through the small opening in the window and left to go find another place to stay. DO NOT BOOK!
