Holidays in Ochanomizu

Do you pore over every travel deal that lands in your inbox? Catch yourself frequently stalking travel hashtags? It's time for a getaway and Ochanomizu, a neighbourhood in Tokyo, is calling your name. The capital of Japan is home to 8,300,000 people. Don't be scared to head out and meet some of them! Ochanomizu is 3 kilometres north of central Tokyo. If you're arriving in Haneda Airport, throw your bags in the boot of a taxi and travel 17 kilometres north.

Ochanomizu is a sightseer's paradise. A range of the city's attractions are sprinkled near this intriguing neighbourhood, including Tokyo Tower and Tokyo Sky Tree. You should also experience the Sensoji Temple and Tokyo Imperial Palace. For a better perspective of this amazing city as a whole, spend some time in the nearby neighbourhoods of Kanda and Jimbocho.

One of the great things about staying in Ochanomizu is that Meiji Jingu Shrine is situated 7 kilometres to the west. This world-famous attraction never fails to impress.

The centre of the city also boasts a range of fabulous sights to feast your eyes on, such as Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building and Tsukiji Fish Market. Yasukuni Shrine and the Tokyo National Museum should also be part of any trip downtown.

Travelling without the kids in tow? Nakajima Teahouse, Shinjuku I Land, Omoide Yokocho and Fukagawa Tokyo Modern Kan should be at the top of your schedule.

The National Art Center Tokyo, the Laforet Museum, the Design Festa Gallery and the Fujifilm Square are perfect for those eager to learn a bit about the local culture.

While you might be able to see a great variety of art on the internet these days, there's nothing like experiencing it first-hand. Discover the area's creative side at the Mori Art Museum, the Nezu Art Museum, the Tokyo Museum of Contemporary Art and the National Museum of Western Art.

If you find yourself stuck in some miserable weather, seek shelter in the Tokyo National Science Museum, Bridgestone Museum of Art, the Kanto Earthquake Memorial Museum and the Taiko Drum Museum. The marvellous collections will be sure to keep your brain buzzing and your body dry!

You can't quite beat that feeling of anticipation when a performance is due to get under way. Watch the curtains go up at the Kabuki-za Theatre, Suntory Hall, the Tokyo Bunka Kaikan and the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Space.

Often kids can have fun in rather unlikely places. Indulge them with visits to Akihabara Electric Town, Sunshine Aquarium, the Tokyo National Diet Library and Sumida Aquarium.

Children can’t spend all day cooped up in the hotel. Give them what they want and spend a few hours at one or two of the area's action-packed attractions. They can choose from Hanayashiki Amusement Park, Namco Namja Town, Meiji-jingu Gaien Ice Skating Rink and National Children’s Castle.

Step outdoors and take in the scenery at the East Garden, the Koishikawa Korakuen Garden, the Kyu Iwasaki-tei Gardens and the Meiji-jingu Garden.

Encounter a diverse range of native animals and plants at the Chinzan-so Garden, the University of Tokyo Botanical Garden and the Koishikawa Botanical Garden.

If the liveliness of city life is wearing you out, head to one of the nearby local parks. Ueno Park, Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, Rikugi-en Garden and Hibiya-koen are great places to kick off your shoes and relax.

The shopping experience is what you make it. Whether you're after something specific or just after some retail therapy, you'll love your time at Mitsukoshi, Omotesando Hills, Nekobukuro and Shinjuku Isetan.

The Edo-Tokyo Museum, National Diet Building, Imperial Palace Garden and the Waseda University are sure to impress visiting history buffs. Do some research beforehand so you can really appreciate these striking attractions.

Discover the region's spiritual side or just reflect in the quiet surroundings of the Asakusa Shrine, St. Mary's Cathedral, the Zojoji Temple and Hanazono Shrine.
