Great old hotel with lots of characters and charm. Situated in downtown made it convenient to walk around. Great breakfast choices include with our stay was a great bonus. Would recommend if you were staying in Ottumwa.

Check in was fast and easy, got an upper floor with a nice view, room was much bigger than I had expected. The lobby cafe was a really cute touch to the hotel and definitely created a vibe going through there. The staff members were all very pleasant and went above and beyond during my stay and made me feel very safe and comfortable. Might be an older hotel in Ottumwa but definitely worth staying at.

The front desk gal was very nice. The property is really neat! Breakfast was SO GOOD! Homecooked, not fake eggs and bacon. The room cooled down well, we visited during warm weather. However, I sat down to use the bathroom when we first entered our room and a roach ran across the floor. My sons comforter had strings of hair all over it as if that had not been changed but the sheets and pillows were clean. I think it may depend on the staff because in the morning I know the cleaning lady cleaned the room across the hall from us very well, I watched her bring out all the sheets and comforters, she spent a good 40 minutes in that room. Overall, it was an ok experience but the place really is neat.

Not a pleasant stay!
Initially we were favorably impressed. After 3 nights our opinion changed. This was a great hotel in its prime but has since fallen on hard times! Understaffed with maid services only every other day. Employees are not trained properly making things chaotic. Bathroom drains did not drain. No decaffeinated coffee! Procedures for free breakfast convoluted! Would love to see the hotel survive but don’t see how that can happen!🥲☹️

Such friendly staff. They do provide quite a bit for a small town hotel. Lots Of History. I came through on my own for a work trip. I am impressed with the place, especially the friendly staff.

I was under the impression renovations had been done but the rooms were still outdated, the elevator sounds like it is giving out. They did have a "new" lobby cafe which was 3 booths pulled from the old 2nd street cafe and plopped into the lobby & looks out of place. I love the history of the property, but like most of Ottumwa it is worn down & needs some TLC.
