I stay at the Hampton Inn Liberty Station every time I visit San Diego, and it has always been a pleasant experience until this most recent stay, which was a major disappointment.
My family and I arrived at the hotel on January 1, 2026. As soon as I opened the door, the room was filled with a foul odor, reminiscent of dirty feet. While investigating the scent, I opened the closet to find two bags of rotting fast food and trash left behind by a previous guest. I also noticed chocolate residue on the carpet near the desk and a spider on the wall.
Because the smell was awful, I went to the front desk to request someone to check the room and ask for a room change, as the room had clearly not been adequately cleaned.
To my surprise, the front desk person had an unprofessional and dismissive attitude. She claimed that, because of the holiday, they were understaffed, as all the other staff were spending time with their families. In addition, she mentioned that the hotel was sold out and could not offer another room. Their 'solution' was for me to dispose of the trash personally. When my wife went to the front desk again with the trash bags to explain that the lack of cleanliness was unacceptable, they gave the same excuse and again told her to dispose of the trash herself.
We asked for the on-duty manager, and we were told there was no one available. The next day, the same issue.
