Your vacation begins in the great room, where exposed beams create a wonderfully rustic atmosphere and solarium-style windows bring the magnificent outdoors in. The immaculate open kitchen enjoys the same panoramic ocean views and features modern appliances to make meal preparation a pleasure. Lay out appetizers and wine on the kitchen counter, gather for dinner around the dining room table, and leave the post-meal clean-up for the dishwasher. Spend a relaxing morning at home playing a board game, using the WiFi to work in the office, or reading in the comfort of the library as the stereo plays in the background. Once the morning fog melts away, you'll find a gas grill in the sheltered outdoor courtyard, as well as a patio table on the deck for al fresco meals with an ocean view. Take a soothing soak in the hot tub at sunset, watching the ocean below for harbor seals, sea lions, and dolphins. Back inside, you'll find a total of three cable TVs, a DVD and Blu-ray player, a VCR, and a selection of VHS movies to watch during cozy evenings in.

Whether you're a hiker or a wildlife enthusiast, Sea Ranch is beloved in Northern California for its quiet beauty and its preserved natural landscapes. Walk less than two miles north to reach Gualala Point Regional Park, one of the best places to spot migrating gray whales from the shore. You'll also be within a short walk of the Sea Ranch Golf Links, where you can play 18 holes with lovely ocean views. Don't forget the shared pool courtesy of the nearby rec centers, Sea Ranch Del Mar, Ohlson, and Moonraker Recreation Centers. Care to take a day-long excursion on California Highway 1? If you drive 52 miles north to the small coastal town of Mendocino, you'll experience one of the most beautiful stretches of this world-famous ocean road.

Great location; tired and worn property

Great location with water views from the living/kitchen area and master bedroom with working hot tub. Issue is about the value for what it is. This place is very much a rental and lost its pride of ownership long ago. We had issues with heat getting to the upstairs (the coast is cold) and there is no central heat to the master bedroom/bath... we borrowed a space heater on day 2. Instructions on heating the place were dated (no mention of how to operate the gas fireplace or there was a space heater hidden in the corner of a closet.) Cold master bathroom is a given. Bring your own toilet paper unless you are OK with 1 ply from a third world country. You may also want to bring your own towels as well. One more thing... once you are in this fishbowl of a master bedroom you realize that there are no windows that open and the slider is wayyyy stuck, so consider your emergency fire exit options (i.e., up a curved flight of stairs, across the kitchen/living room, down a flight of stairs, out of the door).

Marvelous Christmas destination

We loved the house - especially the location. Also for those of us who are older - wonderful rails on the stairs! Only problem, a leaky sink and of course this occurred on Xmas so did not get fixed before we left - we tried not to use the sink. Liked layout of house - great for various ages. We would definitely rent again!!

Overall, very pleased

We loved the home. We would return. View is spectacular. Home is comfortable with wonderfully appointed couches and comfy corners. There is a positive quality to the energy and a feeling almost of a big farmhouse warmth. Some challenges that are definitely fixable: WiFi was unstable and weak Towels seemed thin and rough Front door mat was old and stained We couldn't figure out how to turn on the fireplace. But... All in all. We were quite happy with our experience. Warmly, Leni Miller

All about the View!

This home sits in the perfect location. The view is stunning! Our friends, 6 of us have stayed here about 6 or 7 times since 2015. We love the architecture of the house. The jack and Jill bedrooms have soft but not very comfortable beds. There’s a dip in the middle and you roll into your partner. I looked under the beds in both rooms and noticed cinderblocks and chunks of wood that are there to possible support the bed but it’s not. The basic cleanliness of the bathrooms and kitchen is good. But there are cobwebs and dust through out the house. Rodents are present. We checked in and found a dead mouse in the kitchen. Mouse turds were in drawers, side table, and even on the couch. Last complaint is the windows were dirty and with that view it makes a big difference! Like everything else since Covid the price has gone up and it seemed the housekeeping isn’t a priority. Was there a change in ownership?

Great location

We loved the location - right on the bluff. The design of the house was the most unusual we’ve been in, but in a good way. It would have been nice to have a floor plan or more description of room locations in the property description. The house really needs a deep cleaning - lots of nooks and crannies for dust and spider webs. Also, the view windows needed cleaning to sharpen our view, caused by the salt air from the ocean. And as with many houses in Sea Ranch, there is a lot of water seepage on the interior woodwork. Water was dripping in and near the kitchen sink each morning from condensation from the overhead window. The house could use some TLC. Overall, the stay was a great experience for our family.

Perfect location

Beautiful view from great, sizable living room. Kitchen, hot tub, washer/dryer- all very easy to use. There are lotsa stairs, but we didn’t mind. The house was extremely comfortable and well worth it. There was no coffee maker! The central office were confused whether this was an Amenity or not. Called the local Vacasa office. Staff delivered a new one promptly.

Amazing location

We stayed here for a week, and it was wonderful. First and foremost, the location just can't be beat. You feel like you're alone on the shoreline, with a wall-to-wall view of the ocean and the cliffs. We could just sit on the couch (or hot tub) and watch seals, otters, birds, and whales spouting and flipping their flukes 1/2 mile off the shore. I will say the house layout is spread out with lots of stairs. The bedrooms are separated between front and rear downstairs, and we found ourselves walking back and forth and up and down stairs a lot -- definitely not a great house for elderly or people with mobility issues. Overall a great stay. We'd be happy to come back.

Incredible views and location at Sea Ranch

We liked being on the north end of Sea Ranch, closer to Gualala for shopping/restaurants. Great layout in the home with the 2 bedrooms with jack and jill bath on the lower level with their own living area and views of the ocean. Upper level has panoramic views plus the master is separate from the great room/kitchen, down its own stairway. Plus being on the bluff gives easy access to the bluff trail.

Happy New Year…

We were looking for a nice, quiet, peaceful get away to celebrate the New Year with friends. We last stayed at Compass Rose in March, 2016. We enjoyed that stay, and we’re very happy that the home was available for New Years 2022. We love the location and the layout of the home. Everything worked fine and was very comfortable. Some items are showing their age, like the shades in the main room. This did NOT have a bad influence on our stay as it is so nice to gaze out to the Pacific. Jacuzzi was nice and hot.

Beautiful view and location

Gorgeous view; watched whales go by and enjoyed the changes in the ocean and the sky. Very relaxing. House is a little tired and could use some TLC. Seal in master bedroom picture window has "popped" so the condensation prevented that room from having a stellar view. A little $$ would make this place absolutely unbelievable.

A great place for a group of friends or family

We had three couples +1 for a long weekend getaway. This was the perfect spot -- great views, lots of space for the whole group and several smaller spaces if you wanted some quiet time. On the last day while we were eating breakfast, we saw a grey whale very close to shore. This was the icing on the cake. Thank you for your hospitality.

Coastline Family Time

Had a wonderful stay at the Compass Rose house. Awesome views from all the upstairs windows. Plenty of room for my family. Sea lions on the rocks in the water right out back. The bluff trail behind the house makes it so convenient to walk around and explore the coastline and Sea Ranch. The location is so close to so many semi-private community beaches.

Great Spot!

We stayed for a week in July and the weather for most of the week was gorgeous. We loved the house! Its got the Sea Ranch charm and funk. We are both experienced cooks and we found the kitchen lacking, most of the burners on the stove did not work because of the knobs. The stove is gas and it was hard to shut off and the adjust the temperatures. The pans were old Teflon that was flaking off and there were very few utensils. The house was missing a roasting pan, a casserole dish for lasagna and pie plates. Other then the kitchen we loved the house , especially one that accepts dogs and is so clean.

Great location. Not so great house.

Beautiful location in Sea Ranch. Great views and access to trails along the coastline. However, the house is dirty & very dated. It could use a good scrub. Not worth the amount of money they charge to stay here. The wood floors are very dirty especially on the stairs and other high traffic areas. The furniture is worn and dirty. The windows in the master bedroom overlooking the water are fogged up so you can’t see the view clearly. Dusty everywhere. Bath towels were sparse. This house is in need of some attention by the owner. It needs to be renovated and cleaned up. It’s a very worn out rental. I would not stay here again.

The Compass Rose is a really unique design. We completely enjoyed how the main floor focal point is the amazing view of the Pacific Ocean. The house was thoughtfully prepared for our stay. Everything was clean, organized, and all of the basics (towels, dishes, soap, etc) were available and easy to find. We especially found the bed in the master bedroom to be really comfortable. We would definatley like to come back some day.

Great family house for thanksgoving

Overall we were very satisfied with the house. The view from the main room are amazing. Great cliff walks and close to beaches and Gualala. This is an older house with interesting lay out. Thanksgiving morning got up to boil a kettle and start Thanksgiving cooking and the gas cook top did not work. We were told it was checked by housekeeping and it worked. We were told to try and light it with matches. When the property manager came out she said that we were out of propane! who would not check the propane it should be routine She bought a couple of hot plates. We were thinking no heat or hot water. Fortunately the property manager found a plumber who attached a supplemental propane tank disaster avoided. The manager also said that she would not be able to move us because there was no availability. With that behind us we had a great time making family memories.
