When that last coffee wears off and you can't look at another tourist attraction, curl up with a movie in bed at Shirakawa-go Hostel. It's about as central as you can get in Shirakawa.

If you're OK with setting up shop 25 kilometres from central Shirakawa, try the Hotel Ryu Resort and Spa.

Looking for things to do? Spend some time discovering the Shiroyama Park and Higashiyama Walking Course. You'll find them in Takayama, 35 kilometres to the east of Shirakawa. The Honjin Hiranoya Kachoan and Honjin Hiranoya Bekkan are a few of the great long and short-stay options here. Or, you could stay in Kanazawa, 45 kilometres to the northwest of Shirakawa, where you can pick from the Kanazawa Hakuchoro Hotel Sanraku and Crowne Plaza ANA Kanazawa. The Honkoji Temple and Mount Utatsu are up there with the most popular places to check out while in Kanazawa.

Make your way 55 kilometres southeast and you'll be in Gero, a regional centre with a population of 35,000. While you're exploring this neck of the woods, whip out your camera and get your tourist on at Sarubobo Shrine, Shitajima Onsen and Gero Onsen. The Senshoji Temple and Gero Onsen Gassho Village are a couple more attractions which are sure to offer up some envy-inducing photo ops. There are a great selection of hotels in Gero, with the Hotel Sasara and Yunoshimakan coming in at the top of the list.

Unless you're going to spend a night on the floor of Komatsu Airport, it's probably a good idea to book some accommodation before you leave. The Hotel Arrowle is not too far away, or you could always travel into Shirakawa's centre. It's 45 kilometres away.
