The reception staff were pretty useless... waited a long time to be served. Didn't answer the phones when I called from my room. There were no towels available at the pool and no one seemed to replace them at any point while I was there. One of the lifts also smelled like beer and vommit when I left at 5am to go to the airport but no staff seemed to be on duty during the night to clean it. None of these things mattered too much for a one night stay but I wouldn't choose to stay longer.

This is a great hotel in the middle of Canberra. It's right next to a tram stop and there are plenty of places to eat nearby, and a good coffee place across the road. The pool is good. Breakfast was too expensive so we did not get that -- there are lots of places to eat nearby as I mentioned. The bathtub was good. Window nice and clean -- we even saw the window cleaner at work while we were there. I liked the late checkout (11am). Overall good but it was a little cramped, and the parking price was too high. One more chair would have been very convenient.

Check in and out was easy as self serve. However on our last day, we had hotel staff let themselves in our room at 8:45am unannounced asking when we were planning on checking out and leaving. My partner and I were still in bed, myself sleeping. Come 10am our room keys were already disabled, not allowing lift access. Checkout was 11am. Hotel had some weird smells and no room service unless it was pre ordered.

Very disappointing
Have stayed at the Novotel in years past but this has by far been the most disappointing. Long lines for check in, our room cards didn’t work on first attempt so had to go and join the queue again and wait. Got to the room and the room is very tired and dirty - questionable marks on the carpet and wall, dirty glassware, no toilet brush. The bed was very uncomfortable and no block out blinds. We have stayed in other Novotels before and they are of much higher quality than this, even previous years we haven’t had this poor a stay. There was also a blood stain mark on the wall in the corridor and empty alcohol bottles and rubbish in the lifts. The parking situation is a shambles without the valet parking with cars parking with no regard to the signage, parking in spots which weren’t car spots and car trailers parked across several spots with no one policing it, which is a joke. Had to park in the council car park two blocks down. Despite being happy with our stays in previous years, this has put a damper on our weekend away and we will not be returning.

Room was terribly outdated. Furniture and room need an upgrade. No microwave in the room. Balcony view was terrible. Extremely disappointed considering we have chosen to stay at many Novotels. This was by far the worst we have stayed at. Extremely disappointed and will not be staying again.

Location to central businesses was good. Plenty of eating options. Rooms were clean. Car park was full so had to park in nearby public parking. Property is so dated, furniture in the room is old and damaged. Bathroom was old, worn and damaged. Paid for buffet breakfast but could not get a table because the restaurant was so understaffed and not clearing tables. Parking is not available majority of the time. The lifts are tiny so you have to wait a long time for one to become available. We will not be staying at this Novotel again.
