Excellent

In the real heart of the city, is a retreat in time, to when genuine care and attention to a traveler still exists. From the arrival, immediate access to the theatre district, and a breakfast to actually enjoy, it is truly sad to leave.
I would say the Hotel Windsor trades on the back of tradition and was a costly sum for and average room. Furnishings are worn, bathrooms in desperate need of an upgrade with bathroom fittings peeling and worn. The noise form above us room 303 was incredibly loud, like people dragging furniture across the floor.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service
Air conditioning wasn’t great. Room was warm even though the air conditioning was on.
Pillows weren’t great. One was very too much volume and the other had no volume.
This is a famous iconic Melbourne hotel. The art work in the lobby and dining area is great (Ernest Buckmaster). The room was clean and comfortable. Small, but this is what you would expect from a very old hotel. The room was extremely noisy. The window faced over a laneway and the noise from the trams was very loud until about 2 am, even though the window was shut. I would never stay there again because of the noise. If you must stay there ask for room that does not face into a lane way or road but perhaps faces into the center of the hotel

Disliked: Amenities
Really underwhelming for the price. The building itself is charming, but the room decor is very tired - last updated in the 90s maybe? Furniture scratched and worn, some grot under the glass top of the desk which no one’s bothered to clean. No restaurant for dinner other than a noisy understaffed bar. No pool or gym. The “business centre” is a couple of arm chairs, a grand piano and a single desk. I thought I was going to get a lovely treat but am very disappointed. If you’re looking for a 5 star hotel experience, I’d recommend you go elsewhere.
On the first day, Wednesday, there was no concierge or staff attending the entrance though they did the next two days. Reception staff were friendly and processed check-in and che k-out quickly and pleasantly. A bottle of wine was in our room upon arrival, a part of our gold reward. Evening staff checked out the noises in the Junior Suite emanating from other rooms (think it was airconditioning it was very noisy making sleep difficult) They suggested we speak with day staff and have maintenance che k out the problem. The heating in the room was cold so slept in the robes provided, along with wearing bed socks brought from home. Pillows were wonderful but body ached from the hard mattress. Limited choice of teas so bought own. Purchased coffees when we went out and at breakfast. Dining service staff were efficient and friendly. Food and drinks were delightful. Maintenance required - our room had plaster patch applied in lounge area but not painted. Wingback chairs in passage 2nd floor had leather peeling off the arms. A beautiful heritage building with very dedicated staff, some with considerable longevity as employees. Patrons treasure everything this establishment symbolises and memories from their young years are tied in with their loyalty to the brand.
on arrival perfunctory checkin staff member did not listen to my reservation for 2 rooms. signing the checkinpaper ,was admonished by staff and I the need for glasses and that I could not view the paper since the height of the desk was too high.had to then remind him we had booked 2 rooms for 4 nights.we proceeded to the rooms and were surprised at the size and outlook very unsuitable in view of disabled daughter. went back to reception this time talking to a very helpful mS Jin who was able to allocate a bigger room. the room had a large mobile aircondtioner and the lounge was stained and upholstery was torn and fraying more suitable for the council tip.attempts to use wifi and tv useless. reported this next morning.after getting no timely indication for action rang again and told totry to get modum operational advised my daughter had already done this .then told a staff member from concierge would come. he did promptly and after doing the necessary adjustments said new setup needed and hotel manager would have to ok. he rang promptly and said it would be done next day. we had to go out next morning and checked with the concierge who was unaware of the work order but assured top priority.on return tv working internet poor.on last day after return to room tv not working.this is third visit to hotel first 2 wonderful this one disappointing . on checkout no receipt breakdown and further payment given.
I love The Windsor and have stayed there over the years and wanted to give my daughter a treat. The room was lovely, I understand that all rooms cannot have a view, but the noise of the air conditioner was too much for me, I did not have a good night's rest. But I will try again as this is the first time that this has happened to me.
