Very convenient for tram/train stops at Haymarket. 5 minute way up a slight hill. Quiet for city centre yet still a good variety of eateries and pubs in Morrison st and Lothian rd, within a few minutes. Small convenience store across the road to pick up emergency supplies.
Hotel itself was spotless. Lovely lounge area for chilling. There was a small bar but we didn't use it, preferring to go out to local bar - The Mad Hatter in Torphicen st - lovely! I had checked in online earlier but this didn't appear to work, however a helpful member of staff took care of this.
Breakfast was good. Only a continental selection available but all very fresh and a wide variety of pastries, cereals (with different types of milk) ham and cheese. Also warm savoury muffin/pastry/quiche type things. Tasty. Gluten free cereals also available.
Bad points - toast would have been nice for breakfast. The small, windowless rooms really are SMALL, you have to shuffle side ways up the side of the bed next to the wall. Bed also a true double....cosy! We were only staying one night so no big deal but I would not like to put up with it for longer.
