Only stayed 1 of the nights of our 2 booked and paid for. Shabby hotel, very uncomfortable bed with springs pushing up, no under cover slips on pillows and the spare pillow had no covering at all. Reception provided 1 at our request. Tv was so small it was hard to read. bath had black mould on the silicon seal, so didnt use the shower. Only good thing was the car parking facility….. on hindsight should have gone to premier inn and paid city parking.

Smelly and gross even for the price
Worst stay in weeks of travel so far - the bathroom reeked of mildew, likely from the shower curtain which was covered in black spots. We had to keep the door closed to not be completely overwhelmed and even purchased a small candle to hope to tolerate using the bathroom. So gross.

The hotel was clean and the facilities were ok. Bed was quite hard and there was alot of door slamming during the night. I have no problem staying there again but it is too expensive for what it is.

Last minute booking out of need and during The Festival when Edinburgh is expensive. However, even allowing for this the price is very expensive for a VERY tired hotel. When you turn up to it and enter the foyer your heart sinks and the lift and especially the corridors to the bedroom desperately need to be refurbed. The bedroom was surprisingly nice given everything else and so for one night it was ok. Bathroom is ancient and again needs full overhaul. The staff were lovely.

Disliked: Amenities
Location was convenient. No internet in room which is thoroughly unacceptable. Worse than a 3rd world country hotel. Washroom door lock broken. Water floor in washbasin and shower very very poor. Shower head broken, water leaking all the while. Was not in a position to use shower which is totally unacceptable for we had a 4 night stay. Receptionist at time of booking in was not courteous. Her customer service needs improvement. Hope improvements would be implemented so that the future customers would not encounter these inconveniences.

Shift change at 3pm at check-in added to chaos. No early check-in, resulting in large queue across the mian entrance. Outside area very unkempt and all windows dirty. At 3.30pm corridor full of chamber maids turning over rooms (5 1/2 hours after check out at 11am!). Only bath towells in room, no bath mat, cracked toilet and no teaspoon at tea/coffee station!! Breakfast was pretty farcical...running out of cutlery, diy instant coffee etc.

Hotel NOT recommended
Brittania is about the worst hotel I have almost ever stayed in and I am 81. No one would help me with the luggage from the room to the lobby and my room was about the furthest away from the lobby. The window in the room could not be opened, so the room became very hot as the cable, which held the window open with 1 cm at the top could not be opened further. There was no telephone to the lobby from the room so one had to go all the way to the lobby for any kind of communication. Only caffeine tea in the room, I asked for herbal non-caffeine tea, but they had none and would not get some. Almost no help in the lobby for travel, however David was helpful one day and helped me book a trip to the highlands. I have a U.S. cell phone and I could not use it in Scotland. No wifi in the room as there is in every hotel I have stayed in for many years now. Fortunately a staff member did let me use her wifi as I was somewhat desperate to have it in the room as I had many emergencies at home during my stay. Good things: the room was quiet with a very nice view of the trees outside and the river walk below was a blessing walking to the farmers market on Sunday and other walks. A lot of improvements of the above could easily be done with little effort or expense, if they were willing to give good service to the guests - but the willingnes may not be there by instruction from the management. I would never recommend for any one to stay at this hotel and I certainly will never do so again.

This hotel is in need of serious improvement. TV did not work. Table but no chair. Inadequate provision of tea & coffee etc. Bar and resteraunt area inadequate for the size of hotel. Property needs major investment to be fit for purpose.

Room not cleaned for the 3 days of our stay. Windows in an appaling state of dirtyness. A staff entered our room without knocking while we were in bed.On our third morning, we were charges 2£ more each for breakfast without any prior warning. Unfriendly staff at the reception (very friendly staff at breakfast). No WiFi in the rooms. Management not receptive to construtive or negative comments.

Worst Britainia we have stayed in
Initialy receptionist was really good and helpful. We booked 2 rooms with our son and daughter in law. Couldnt get a drink of any kind Paid £80 for dinner which the quality of food was poor more to say the cooking and presentation was poor. Following morning at 4.45 laundry was collected with horrendous noise next to our room, 7am coaches outside our room window ran their engines went to have a shower and had no towels in the room. Altogether a horrble stay from an operational perspective.
