This is one of the nicer hotels I've stayed at and I've traveled a lot. A short walk from Santa Fe Station and from downtown San Diego Gaslight district.

First, the staff was not helpful. The check in was easy but they did not explain where our room was or how to get there. They didn’t describe or help with any amenities. And, they checked us in to a room that was still in the process of being cleaned, so we had to stand outside the room and wait with our luggage. Once inside, we had very few towels and no bedding for the pull out where our child was to sleep. Secondly, they do not have a shuttle, for anything. We flew in to SD for a cruise and the hotel could not assist with transportation from the airport or to the cruise port. We were told there was public transportation from the airport that would drop us off a block away and we could walk to the port the next day. Four suitcases, three people (one is 4 at the time of this post), two carryons… and a partridge in a pear tree, to walk 10 or so city blocks or squeeze on a bus. No thanks. They wouldn’t even call us a cab. I expect better service when you pay for a suite. We got motel service from this hotel. Last, I don’t know why everywhere to eat closed at 2pm or didn’t open until 5pm, but options in walking distance to the hotel were limited. This is not the fault of the hotel, but still adds to our experience during the stay. Also, the elevator doors are not wide enough for the bellman cart. We had to rearrange our luggage twice to make it fit on the elevator with us.

There is a 50.00 charge for having a dog in your room, but there is NO area anywhere around the hotel for a pet relief area. Why advertise you are a pet friendly hotel when you don’t have a pet relief area.

The room was small with two queen beds and only one desk chair. The hand basin was in the entryway separate from the small toilet/shower room. It seemed suitable for a single traveller (with one bed) but cramped for two. We found Tender Greens and the Corner Bakery close by for dinner and breakfast.

Staff was great. Everything else was kind of awful. Elevators felt like they were going to give out at any moment. I’ve met sandpaper softer than the sheets. Literally got a fabric burn on my elbow from rolling over one night. Amazing hot water, though.
