For our purposes, as we are regularly accessing Sydney from the country, The Great Southern Hotel is extremely convenient. It is an older hotel but has well-considered facilities, a comfortable mattress, and a clean modern bathroom all at a very acceptable price for an inner CBD accommodation. The position is EXCELLENT with access to buses, regional and suburban rail, and light rail, all within a hundred metres or so, and the International and Domestic airports on a direct line from Central Station which is about two hundred metres away from the hotel. The restaurant has a variety of breakfasts at very acceptable prices and there is easy access to many very good value restaurants of high quality. We will definitely come again.

Warning. Not a 4 star hotel. Best described as a high class hostel. Plexiglass reception. Random man sleeping in a chair 24 hours. Dirty bar. Sparse room but had some nice updates. Best quality was clean bathroom. A 2 star hotel is a generous rating.

Easy to find next to the station. Art deco building therefore small rooms. Nice breakfast, friendly staff, rooms were quiet, good lifts.

I enjoyed all of my 4 nights except one thing. The hotel wifi was out for 19 hours on Sunday. One staffer told me they "don't have a IT person on Sundays." Very bad for someone relying on wifi for all my communications. In my opinion, unforgivable for a good hotel. In the afternoon i discovered the hotel bar did have it's own free wifi, so the hotel's ISP didn't have an outage.

This Hotel is very conveniently located near to the City, transport and Darling Harbour. Room was as expected at the price point. I’ve stayed here before so knew what to expect. Dining options in the hotel were not used on this visit however there are many Asian restaurants nearby. Worth considering if you like convenience over time spent in the hotel environment.

Still my favorite hotel in Sydney for a few days stay - great location especially for transport- light rail and Central station, great service, good price and I love the brekky and night cap in the bar. Thumbs up
