The location of the hostel is perfect and within a short walk to everything. Modern and super clean place with great staff and an excellent breakfast on site which was so convenient! Thanks for a great stay in Sydney!
The hotel was built on an archeological site visible through the passage to the reception, cafeteria, and the rooms. The hotel modern, simply clean and functional, having a terrace with fantastic view to the Opera House and the surrounding downtown skyscrapers.
Location and view from rooftop were outstanding! Top bunk bed was difficult to navigate, so we ended up putting it on the floor. Staff was very accommodating. Highly recommend.
Pricey for a basic room - obvs paying for location in The Rocks. Lots of stairs to navigate in the area, but with that in mind it is close to ferries, Opera House.
Our family of 5 with kids 8,10&12 just spent 2 nights at YHA. It was a great location to walk to many attractions. We used and appreciated the kitchen space for preparing some meals but sadly had someone steal $60 worth of our food. Be cautious of what food you leave in the fridge with your name on it as there obviously the odd person who will take what is not theirs. Waking up to go make my family breakfast and see most of our food gone was heartbreaking.
Other then that it was a great place to rest our heads and affordable.
We stayed in a private “Opera Harbour View” room. Check in went well, but when we got to our room we noticed the garbage pails hadn’t been emptied, there was a questionable brown streak on the wall and the next morning we found a small spot of blood on the bed sheets. We alerted the staff who promised to do a deep clean of the room while we were out for the day. When we got back the room had indeed been well cleaned. The brown streak was gone as were other scuff marks that had been on the wall, the sheets had been changed and the garbages emptied.
The hostel is part of the Big Dig and there are lots of fascinating artifacts to see, sign boards to read, not to mention it’s located above an excavated site which they’ve left stairwells open so you can easily see the excavated area below.
We’d stayed at the hostel last year because the price was amazing but they’ve since done renovations and the price has gone up. Although still cheaper than other places, I didn’t feel like we’d received as much value for our money this time as we did the year before.
Also a caution about the Opera Harbour View rooms: the view is nice…as long as a cruise ship isn’t in port. Then your Opera Harbour View becomes a Cruise Ship View. Usually not a problem because the ship is only there during the day, but they will sometimes be there overnight.
