This hotel is quirky, interior design is fantastic with a touch of old style down town LA. Kind room is beautiful, bed is huge and views of down town excellent. Staff so welcoming & very helpful. Just round corner on 7th st is The Brazilian Steakhouse IMG amazing food & welcoming

The property overral is beautiful roof top is definitely the best part of the hotel and stay but I the room is much smaller than it appears and the windows must be so thing you can hear everything that happens outside even on the 8th floor

This has become my preferred place to stay in Los Angeles. The front desk has always been friendly. The full rooms are quite nice. The rooftop pool and bar is a nice little oasis. And, most importantly for me, it's very close to a host of theaters on Broadway. I'm often in LA for a concert in one of these theaters, and being within 5-10 minutes walking distance (at most) is very convenient.

Great staff, mellow and welcoming vibe. Lounge and pool areas are stellar. Besides the constant diligence one must have when walking around to avoid stepping into something you’d wish you hadn’t on the sidewalks. I will most certainly be back to stay at the Freehand in the future.

If you are looking for a hotel that’s authentically downtown LA this is the property for you! All staff were helpful, friendly, room cleaned daily fresh bedding and towels etc Excellent location. About 5 minutes to metro station. The added bonus of the roof terrace and pool. We had a corner room. Plenty of space and a seating area. Shower amazing! Would defiantly stay here again

I like that the wooden bunkbeds are semi private & have indiv. lamps. The lockers are also wooden & big enough for a large backpack. I like that staff provide guests w/ towels. I like that there's a gym, rooftop pool & bar for all guests to use. I would have been more comfortable if the air conditioner worked & if there was even one air freshner in the dorms, considering how many people are sharing a cramped space. Dorm guests pay resort fees too. Staff could also stock the lounge in the basement w/ plastic utensils & paper plates b/c many travelers don't bring those items w/ them. I'm sure management knows all of this. Also, Freehand increases rates on the weekends, so you might end up paying 2X as much for a bed as you would on weekdays.
