Three day stay with two of them happening to be during the Dodger games. Staff accommodated the spike of guests as kindly, professionally and full service wise with the same level of quality as the slower night I stayed. Well done with grace and openness.
stayed in the Female Quad for a night. was assigned the upper bunk but for me (heavy and not really an athlete) it took me ages to climb down the bed and i dont think i can do it again. Fortunately they are able to switch me to another room with bottom bunk (thanks god and kudo to the staff!).
Location-wise this is a good spot, couple of minutes walk from the metro, you have wholefood just down the street and plenty of food around the hotel.
it's in a renovated old building and it's really retro and nicely deco. love it!
I stayed for the night to attend concert at Crypto Arena, it's about 15-20mins totally walkable and it's not scary to walk alone at 11ish pm.
people mentioned the noise on the street but i found that ok (stayed in 5th flr)
only a little minus is they do not have shower gel (they have hand soap and a really fluffy thick towel) so make sure you bring your own.
Stayed at the Freehand for 4 nights in September. The room was a good size and a bit dated but the bathroom was updated and very clean. Pool was nice and happy hour was decent. The area surrounding was a bit sketchy at times but nothing major. The golden gopher across the street was a great spot. Food at the pool was average. There is some great street tacos just up the street or tacos Rodriguez truck across the street was also pretty good. Price was decent all in all I would say good for short trips.
I've stayed here almost 20 times over the last many years, since the hotel opened.
As a business traveler it's nice to go back to the same hotel again and again. It saves precious time knowing what will be in the room & proximity to parking late night food etc. Little by little they've been deleting amenities, 1st slippers, then you had to ask for robes & lotion, now they don't give them at all despite the fact that they still list robes on their site & this site. Now they don't even give a note pad & pencil to leave a note w/ your tip for housekeeping . I asked for a printed receipt yesterday and they said that because it was paid through Hotels.com they couldn't give one. On the other hand , the staff ( except one time ) are always really lovely.
Great hotel in an ideal DTLA location. The room was comfy and chic, the rooftop pool bar was to die for. My one quibble was that the internet just did not work for us. They said they were having trouble the Friday we checked in, but the problem persisted the whole time we were there. Hopefully, it's not usually like this and it wasn't a big enough problem to deter us from staying there again.
Nearly a third of the loungers and seating is unusable as they've been "reserved". I was there for approximately 5 hours and I didn't see one being used, all whist people were sitting in the floor.
The shared rooms are nice however they require the privacy curtains to be reattached onto the front of the beds.
