The old building, though recently renovated, had a clean and comfortable room with daily room service. The friendly staff provided excellent service, and the lobby offered 24-hour access to coffee, tea, cookies and apples . The location was convenient, with a short walk to the waterfront and Market Street. 1 min walk to union square

Charming older hotel, we had a lovely suite on top floor with high ceilings & a separate living room- 2bathrooms with deep tub. Nicely decorated with color & brocades. No flat white here !!

Unsafe to keep window open due to fire escape stairs right outside the window. Hotel has no air conditioning and unfortunately I was there during an October heatwave. Even if it was safe to have the window open, the rooftop utilities and tall buildings blocked any breeze. Otherwise the room was ok. Staff was decent. Didn’t feel safe being out at night in this area. Basically you get what you pay for. The reviews on Expedia and trip advisor are way too high and misleading.

The Chancellor has great architecture & great history. Older hotel but staff is awesome. Coffee, water & cookies round the clock. Sears fine food right next door.

It is a wonderful family owned hotel right next to Union Square. The rooms are very clean and the housekeeping service was excellent. Although it's rated as a three star hotel it was a much more pleasant stay than many 4 star hotels I have been to.
