I had a wonderful stay at ICI Hotel Ueno Shin Okachimachi. My room was the perfect size for one person, and the bed was quite comfortable. I also had a view of the Skytree, which was totally unexpected. I got to watch the sun rise next to the tower, and then would sit and eat konbini cream puffs while gazing at the lights at night. It was like the perfect introduction to Japan.
The location was also excellent. Super close to many different train lines, as well as walking distance to Ameyayokocho and Senseo-ji and Nakamise-dori. The proximity meant I could visit those areas multiple times, seeing them both during daytime and night, which was awesome.
The immediate area around the hotel is quieter and more residential, which I also liked. It felt very safe. And right behind the hotel is a covered market area with a nice little sushi stand—great for a snack before bed, haha.
What makes this hotel really stand out is the staff. They're all super friendly, attentive, and eager to help. They always greeted me when I went out and came back. Even the cleaning staff would say good morning to me. More than anything, the staff are what made my stay so excellent.
The one, single thing that could have improved my stay was if they offered a wash cloth as part of the amenities. Maybe they did in the lobby and I simply missed it? I had to buy one, which wasn't a problem, but still, that's the only negative I can think of.
I would absolutely stay at this hotel again!
