A nice old railway hotel but with all the modern conveniences. Great location across the road from rail station and in an area easily accessible to entertainment, restaurants and shopping. Could get anywhere in the city centre easily.
This is a quiet and traditional hotel right in the city centre. Perfect for rail passengers at both New Street and Moor Street stations. Lots of shopping at nearby pedestrian-only streets. 24 hour reception with helpful desk clerk.
The restaurant windows could be cleaner, couldn’t help looking how dirty they were.
I upgraded to a superior room, I got charged the full price until I told the receptionist that I was overcharged, she did apologise and was refunded the difference.

Due to the old architecture there are steps. For example once I got off the elevator with my luggage on the 2nd Floor I found I had to take my luggage up 13 steps to get to my room. Since the 2nd Floor and 3rd Floor are connected if the person checking me in had told me to go to the left out of the elevator I got reach my room with only six stair steps which were all down steps which are much easier to handle. I figured this out on my own after expending the effort of lifting my luggage up 13 steps. I am 75 years old but still able (with some effort) to lift heavy luggage however some of your guests might not be able to handle the task. So please have the staff think ahead about customer needs and the unusual arrangement of stair steps in the building.
I try to always book a hotel with air-conditioning due to lung issues and being to warn does not help. On bookig in i was told the room definitely had air conditioning. Obviously it did not. I do not like to make a fuss and there was a fan in the room so i had a very uncomfortable night. Also lots of moths in the room . So disappointed with this because i had been looking forward to staying here.
Fantastic location right outside New Street Station. We were able to drop off bags before check in and leave to collect later after check out. We had a great sized room. Decor is dated but non offensive and bathroom was a bit tired but fully useable. We had a great breakfast in a lovely airy dining room.
Hotel is perfectly located and everything we did was in easy walking distance.
Would definitely return.
I enjoyed my stay it was convenient to the train station for my trip the next day, it is close to city centre for last minute shopping on a Sunday and the staff were friendly and professional, the room was comfortable had all the essentials
Great property, friendly staff, felt a bit empty when I visited.
Bit of noise from the trams outside but personally it didn't bother me.

A lovely spacious room with comfortable bed and good bathroom facilities. Great value, too.
However, the room was very warm. Fans did help slightly, but aircon should be provided in a hotel of this calibre. Also, I expected better toiletries as I paid for an upgrade. Moisturiser and conditioner wpuld have been nice touch.
Overall, a good stay and I would choose this hotel again.
Used this hotel a number of times now. Great location, always a fast and easy check in and the rooms have always been good.
I would recommend for business trips or for couples.
The location is excellent, very easy walk to the Birmingham New Street station. Front desk staff person was nice and friendly. But, the hotel has definitely seen better days - shabby and not very clean, NO air-conditioning and I would not have booked if that had been on the listing, elevator did not go all the way to to my room so I had to carry everything up a flight of stairs, breakfast food was terrible and not worth the price. Listing photos are not current. The location is simply not worth the cost, try another hotel.
